It's hard to accept after the most amazing spring and summer 2025, but autumn is really here. And it is my absolutely favourite (and busiest) time for outdoor family photoshoots!

Here in Worcestershire, we are spoilt for choice when it comes to breathtaking places to visit - whether it is for your own walk, or a family session. From golden woods to rolling hills and even colourful arboretums, autumn transforms our landscapes into a warm, vibrant... playground! As a nature-loving mama and a Worcester family photographer, I’ve explored these spots countless times (often with my toddler in the backpack!) and I can tell you - they’re absolutely magical for autumn family photos.

My recommended locations for your family photos in Worcestershire in autumn.

  1. Local nature reserves, commons and downs.

Worcestershire is blessed with a number of nature reserves and commons that truly are just the best in the autumn. Wildlife Trust Reserves and commons near Worcester, Great Malvern or Kidderminster are my go to places. Rich in yellows, very quiet and absolutely perfect.

They’re also family-friendly: free parking, clear trails, and plenty of space to stay and enjoy a picnic or pub lunch nearby after your session. And trust me, you'll need that hearty meal - my sessions are super fun but also physically tiring for everyone involved (me including!). There may be occasional cuddle on the blanket or admiring fungi, mostly it is chasing, hiding, twirling, leaf fighting...

  2. Magical autumn at Bodenham Arboretum.

If there’s one place that truly showcases autumn, it’s Bodenham Arboretum. With its lakes, woodlands, and hundreds of tree species, the colour display is second to none. Everywhere you turn, there’s a backdrop of fiery oranges, rich reds, and soft golds.

It’s also brilliant for families - lots of space to explore, paths to follow, and even a café overlooking the lake where you can warm up afterwards. There are animals, a pumpkin trail and ducks waiting to be fed. I’ve had families throw leaves, splash in puddles, and giggle their way through Bodenham, and the results are always timeless.

Bodenham Arboretum is large (but don’t worry, I know it well!) so even on busy days there’s space for exploration and play away from the crowds. I do several family photoshoots here each autumn, but I strongly recommend booking your session mid-week. Weekends tend to be much busier, which can limit the quieter spots we can explore – plus, mid-week means fewer people in the background and a more relaxed atmosphere for your family. Believe me, the journey (about 40 minutes from Worcester) and the reasonable entrance fee are absolutely worthwhile for the stunning backdrop and memorable experience it offers.

    3. Autumn family photoshoot in Worcester itself!

You don’t always need to travel far for autumn magic. Worcester Woods Country Park and Perdiswell Park offer plenty of leafy paths, open spaces, and autumn colours right in the city. I have my favourite spots in both, trust your experienced Worcester family photographer!

These spots are ideal for families who prefer something close to home or who don't drive, with easy access and familiar surroundings. Plus, the city parks are brilliant for younger children - there’s always a playground or a café.

  3. Your own garden or farm.

Don’t underestimate the beauty of your own space! If you have an amazing garden, field, or even a farm - you already have a location full of personal meaning. I’ve photographed families with their dogs, cats, and even tractors, and autumn always adds charm: colourful trees, muddy wellies, and cosy family cuddles against your own backdrop.

This option works especially well if you have babies or toddlers who thrive with the comfort and routine of being at home.

    5. The Malvern Hills.

The Malvern Hills are stunning in every season, but autumn makes them extraordinary. Rolling hills covered in russet tones, wide open skies, and views that stretch for miles - it’s a dream backdrop for your family photoshoot in Worcestershire.

I know some great quick routes up (one is less than 15 minutes with only 60m elevation), so even little legs can manage it! The mix of crunchy leaves, windy paths, and wide open views makes the Malvern Hills perfect for adventurous families who want photos that feel wild, free, and joyful.

Don’t worry if you’re worried about the mud - wellies look adorable in photos, and muddy boots are practically guaranteed in autumn!

How to choose the perfect autumn location for your family.

Every family is different - some love the idea of climbing the hills, others prefer the calm of a park or the charm of a garden. That’s why I always help you choose a spot and time of day that suits your family’s personality, ages of your children, and the kind of memories you’d like to capture. I'll tell you where to park, what to bring, what to wear and what to expect. I've got you! No matter which location we choose, you can expect mud, laughter, and autumn magic. We’ll take our time, play, and let the nature do the rest.

P.S. I have some secret spots for family shoots which I only reveal upon booking ;)
