Questions about your

FAMILY PHOTOSHOOT

in Worcestershire

What should I wear?

It is hugely important to wear the right kind of clothing you wear. Neutral colours are best. Bear in mind the season, weather and location. For summer sessions - how about you take your socks off?

There is a lot to think about and planning is crucial. I will send you a detailed guide as to what to wear and what to avoid a few days before the session. We will also discuss it during our consultations.

Where do photo sessions take place?

Outdoors or at your home. It is completely up to you. Most newborn baby sessions take place at home; maternity sessions tend to take place outdoors, whereas families prefer outdoors or a combination of the two.

Outdoors sessions can take place in your local park or wood, at a nature reserve, arboretum ... possibilities are endless. I know many idyllic places in Worcestershire.

Please note if you want your session to be held at a paid-for location you will need to cover your and my entry fees.

What is the best time of day for the photoshoot?

Firstly, it's essential to choose a time when your children are likely to be at their happiest. Ensuring that everyone enjoys themselves is my top priority, so this is a significant consideration:)

Secondly, we need to consider the optimal lighting conditions. Depending on the time of year, the best lighting often occurs later in the day, such as during the soft evening sunlight. Harsh midday sun, particularly in the summer, can be unflattering plus we don’t want anyone to wear sunglasses or squint.

How long does a photo session last?

Sessions typically last between 2-3 hours. I'm flexible and happy to accommodate your family's needs, so we can take breaks for snacks or any other necessities. Your comfort and enjoyment during the session are my priority, so we'll take our time to capture beautiful moments without any pressure.

What's your photography style?

My approach to family photography is centred around creating relaxed and natural moments, avoiding overly posed or awkward situations. Often referred to as 'lifestyle family photography,' I focus on capturing genuine interactions and emotions.

I'll work with you to plan an activity or outing that reflects your family's interests and personalities, setting the stage for authentic moments to unfold. It's important to me that your family feels relaxed and happy during the photo session, ensuring both a fun experience AND beautiful images.

I like it, but I’d love a traditional style posed portrait if possible too - for the grandparents!

I’ll always try and include some group photos of you all together. My goal is to capture genuine smiles and comfortable poses rather than stiff, awkward poses. I want you to feel relaxed and enjoy genuine laughter during these group shots.

For extended family sessions, I make sure to capture group photos of smaller family units and sibling groups, in addition to capturing larger shots of everyone together. This ensures that we capture the essence of your entire family dynamic in a natural and authentic way.

What if my older child won't cooperate during the photoshoot?

Even well-fed and rested babies may cry a lot or a 2-year-old may refuse to smile. Let them be children and do what they feel like - even if it is running around the tree! Some children will need more time than others to get used to me or the camera. I will never ask them to smile at the camera and neither should you. Just come with an open mind and don't have any expectations for your little ones. Some sessions are certainly more challenging than others, but I will be able to capture those calm moments and beautiful expressions. I like working with children and I am a mom too - it helps.

How do we prepare?

Once you've booked your session, I'll send you a comprehensive guide to your outdoor maternity photoshoot, complete with advice and checklists to help you prepare and know what to expect before, during, and after the session.

Can my mum and dad also participate?

Absolutely! Please let me know in advance who will be attending the session.

Can I bring my dog to our outdoor family session?

Of course:)

What if it rains?

We need to be dressed appropriately for an outdoor session:) Whilst mist, low temperatures or wind are not necessarily reasons to postpone a session, heavy rain certainly is. In such a case, we will move your session to the next convenient  date at no additional cost.
